Pet Fur Cleanup, Simplified with Science
If you live with a pet that sheds, you know all that fluff can wind up anywhere. Pesky pet fur is the biggest cleaning challenge for pet parents. Here's what we know about cleaning up pet fur – and how we're making it easier.
Understanding all types of pet fur
Every pet is unique – all the way down to their fur. A wire-haired terrier has a long, hard, and curly coat, while the fur of an American shorthair cat is soft and straight. Pet hair can be oily, leaving a residue, and some of it is barbed, which easily attaches to upholstery fabric and carpet fibers. We collect real cat and dog fur from BISSELL Associates to innovate the best products for cleaning it up.
Tackling fur on floors
Loose fur can settle anywhere – on carpet, behind doors, under furniture. Our vacuums are designed to make it easier to clean these stubborn places with machines that clean along room edges, in tight corners, and deep in stair treads. Advanced LED lighting makes it simple to spot errant fur while Tangle-Free and self-cleaning brush rolls keep fur from wrapping around the brush.

Keeping upholstery clean and fresh
Invited or not, pets often find their way onto furniture, bringing along shedding fur and stuck-on oils and grime. To keep upholstery clean, pet owners must lift debris and fur – including fur embedded into the fabric – and wash away messes. The BISSELL Upholstery Center of Excellence works to ensure each Pet Proven™ tool and machine to come out of the lab lifts individual strands and washes away residue to keep fabrics looking, feeling, and smelling like new.
Innovating beyond pet hair
Animal dander is the best-known pet allergen. But pet fur and hair can also trap and transport pollen and other non-living allergens into the house, which can exacerbate environmental allergies. Our expertly engineered vacuums have the suction and filtration to eradicate fur and debris and many have HEPA filters to trap tiny particles such as dust, dander, and pollen allergens and dust mite matter.
